Ohio State Buckeyes Freshman Rape Troubles
The Akron Beacon Journal reports this sad news on christmas day. It seems the schools ongoing trouble with the football team just got worse. Freshman receiver Albert Dukes was arrested Tuesday on two charges of lewd and lascivious battery in Palm Beach Florida stemming from allegations he forced a 12 year old girl to have sex with him there last summer.
Albert faces up to 30 years in prison, if convicted and is the fifth Buckeyes player to be charged with a crime in the last year. The entire program is under investigation by the NCAA for widespread misconduct. Quarterback superstar Troy Smith was suspended Monday for accepting improper gifts against NCAA rules.
Sounds like this football team up in Ohio believes they are above the law and can get away with anything they want. What's with a little hanky panky or some cool stuff under the table when we can throw and catch balls so well?

If your coworker smashed a lit cigar in your face
This interesting story from the green isle reports that soccer midfielder Joey Barton is very sorry for attacking team mate Jamie Tandy with a lit cigar at the teams christmas party. Seems they got a little merry and then became a whole lot violent.
Similar events will happen at company christmas parties around the world as merry makers enjoy the judgement imparing and ever flowing alchohol usually associated with such gatherings. Mix booze with some people who might not always be free to say what they really feel and you'll end up with a fight or two or perhaps a couple of secret love birds in a closet somewhere. It ruins careers and professional reputations every year.
Sports guys like to fight anyway, especially after drinking and since I'm an Irish American I think I can feel free to say that I'm not surprised a fight with a cigar broke out in a room full of drunk Irish Jocks. I mean, come on, not to be stereotypical here, but isn't it to be expected?
Perhaps that's why the punishement was so light and they are not even sure if he will sit out one game. The coach said he was convinced not to can this player when the young man walked into his office to confess and apologize:
So what would happen at your christmas party if one of your coworkers attacked another with a lit cigar to the face? Would he still have a job with the firm? Would he surely be sued or jailed? Would anyone want to work around him anymore?
If the public heard a story like this about a politician, they would demand he be ousted. Same with a judge, cop, teacher, company managers, and perhaps even the guy at the conveinence store. But we are always more lenient with our athletic heros. Why?

Spoil Sports
I like this guy! A real life anti jock activist has a whole website dedicated to resisting jock domination of american society. Check out Spoil Sports.

Rather, its to offer criticism against the obsessive way this society worships sports and the people who play them, to put down those who use sports in improper ways (like to aggrandize themselves and to put down others who DONT play sports), and to suggest that people ought to STAND UP to all of this nonsense and OPPOSE IT! This is a great site full of lot's of great info. Just be aware that this guy takes quite a strong stance and this site might not please those of the sports fanatic persuasion. Oh well, it's not for them anyway, now is it?
